Call for Composers
Coincidence im Gespräch Vol. 2

The ensemble coincidence invites composers to apply for the second edition of Coincidence im
Gespräch
As part of the project, selected composers will be commissioned to create a new solo work for one
of the ensemble members. The resulting works will be premiered on 25. November 2026 at the
Cubus, KULTUM, Graz (Austria).

Coincidence in Conversation is conceived as a platform for contemporary music and artistic
exchange. Alongside the performances, the composers and their creative processes are placed at the
center of the project. Therefore, the presence of the selected composers on the day of the concert is
a requirement for participation.
The ensemble welcomes a wide range of compositional approaches and is open to performative and
experimental concepts.

Available Instruments
Applicants may propose a new solo work for one of the following instruments:

Clarinet / Bass Clarinet
Violin
Violoncello
Piano
Voice (Bass-Baritone)
Accordion

Please indicate in your application which instrument or voice you would prefer to write for.

We will do professional audio and video recordings.
 

Duration
Selected composers will be asked to create a new solo work with a duration of approximately 5–10
minutes.

Exchange and Collaborative Process
An essential aspect of the project is the exchange between composers and performers throughout
the creative process.

By 10 August 2026, selected composers are asked to submit an initial sketch, concept, or first
section of the piece (for example, the first minute of music). This intermediate step is intended to
encourage artistic dialogue and allow feedback from the performers to become part of the
compositional process.
Throughout the creation of the work, ensemble members will be available to answer questions
regarding instrumental techniques, notation, and the sonic possibilities of their instruments.

The application should include:

*A short letter of motivation, including your preferred instrument or voice
*A short CV
*One or more sample scores or other work samples

Timeline
Application deadline: 1 July 2026
Submission of sketch/concept: 10 August 2026
Submission of the completed score and performance materials: 1 September 2026
